Now more than four score years have past

The olive tree of peace is green at last

And you who took the flag and carried on the fight

Must know as we did that the cause was right

 

From many lands and tongues we came

And no one came for private gain

From mines and mills and ivory towers

To join the struggle that we knew was ours

 

We were not dupes or mindless slaves

We were not pawns in some great game

We were at war and yet we were at peace

We came to join the fight for freedom and release

 

So if they ask you why we came

What brought us here to fight for Spain

The only answer we would say

Our open eyes could see no other way

 

So sow this earth in which so many lie

I sow the seeds that must not die

And let the people live as one

That all may take their place beneath the sun

Avui fa més de setanta anys,

ja estàs verda olivera de pau,

i els qui van prendre el relleu lluitant

sabíeu com nosaltres que era important.

 

D’indrets llunyans molts vam venir,

ningú per treure’n cap profit,

de mines, camps, mansions de rics,

tots per la lluita que sempre ens ha unit.

 

No érem ingenus ni enganyats,

tampoc peons a un joc d’escacs,

la guerra fèiem per la pau,

lluitant per tots i per la llibertat.

 

Per quin motiu érem aquí?

Què ens va portar al vostre país?

Si algú ens pregunta haurem de dir:

obrint els ulls, no es veia altre camí.

 

Sembrem on jauen tants amics

llavors que mai han de morir,

i en harmonia un món bastim

on cadascú pugui fer el seu destí.

Per quin motiu érem aquí?
