It’s nearly 50 years now, since Franco passed away,

But if you lived in Spain, you’d think he’d never been away.

Among his dying words, he said: “I’ve tied up all loose ends!”

He’d made his family rich and left in power all his friends.

 

For our unelected monarchy we’re in the General’s debt,

And for a constitution the armed forces would accept.

There’s a party still in power who won’t condemn the Franco times.

And no-one’s stood trial for the regime's atrocious crimes.

 

Public funds for a Foundation that can sue you if you tried,

To rid your town of Fascist symbols, for some a source of pride.

Streets named after Franco in many cities you still see;

Can you imagine Hitler Strasse in modern Germany?

 

A few friends chanting slogans? An illegal demonstration!

They’ll arrest you for questioning the unity of the nation.
Taking photos of policemen beating up a picket line,

Can send you off to jail or land you with a hefty fine.

 

A region may vote in favour of an independence group,

But put it into practice and you’re threatened with a coup.

Democracy’s a sham when the courts are in control

And not the people of a nation through a fair and honest poll.

 

It’s over 40 years now, since Franco passed away,

But if you lived in Spain, you’d think he’d never been away.

Fa gairebé 50 anys que Franco va morir,

però si visquessis a Espanya, pensaries que encara és aquí.

Entre les seves paraules moribundes va dir: Ho he lligat tot!

Havia enriquit la seva família i deixat al poder a tots els seus amics.

 

Per la nostra monarquia no electa estem en deute amb el general

i per una constitució les forces armades van pactar.

El PP quan són al govern no condemnen els temps franquistes

i ningú ha estat jutjat pels atroces crims del règim.

 

Hi hauria un clam públic si mai intentéssiu

eliminar tots els símbols feixistes, per a alguns motius d'orgull.

Carrers que porten el nom de Franco encara es veuen.

Podeu imaginar un Hitler Strasse a l'Alemanya moderna?

 

Uns quants amics estan corejant consignes?

Això és una manifestació il·legal.

T’arrestaran per qüestionar la unitat de la nació.

Fent fotos de policies colpejant una línia de piquets,

pot resultar en la presó o una multa molt forta.

 

Una regió pot votar a favor d'un grup independentista,

però posa-ho en pràctica i t'amenacen amb un cop d'estat.

La democràcia és una farsa quan els tribunals tenen el control

i no la gent d'una nació mitjançant un vot just i honest.
